lovin’ the labor day-ness

in case you missed the memo ~ LABOR DAY weekend is upon us!!!

wait, what… already?! where did the summer go?! i feel like 4th of july weekend was just yesterday

labor day means SO many things to me:

a day off of work – beautiful-ness :0)
bar-beee-cuing all weekend long
getting to the beach
kayaking on the river
NJ Wine Festival

and my favorite-est part of all –>
we (the locals) get our beautiful beaches back!!!! until fall sets in
the ‘true jersey summer’ kicks off on tuesday when all of the Benny’s go home!!

what a beautiful thing 🙂

so anyways – back to the main point of this post – why do we celebrate labor day anyway?

hocked straight from the governmental dept of labor site:

Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. The Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later, on September 5, 1883.

In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday, as originally proposed, and the Central Labor Union urged similar organizations in other cities to follow the example of New York and celebrate a “workingmen’s holiday” on that date. The idea spread with the growth of labor organizations, and in 1885 Labor Day was celebrated in many industrial centers of the country.

and there you have it ladies and gents – kick back, grab a cold one and enjoy yo’self this weekend!

i’ve gotta say , i do love the summertime like no other,
but the idea of fall being just around the corner
pulling the sweaters, jeans and Uggs (which btw Lexi was just trying to chew on) out of the closet and cozying up to the fire on a cool night
sounds like something lovely to look forward to… doesnt it?
