>speedy mc-speedster

have you ever noticed the lack of speed limit signs in new york city? i often wonder, while strolling (who am i kidding im a speeeeed demon) down the streets of the big apple, going to and fro work, what is the speed limit? who enforces it? why doenst anyone seem to abide to it?

i did a little poking around and came across this NYC DOT site highlighting a campaign started by mayor Bloomberg in august of last year:

The ads drive home the message that the speed limit is 30 for a reason: If a pedestrian is hit by a car traveling 40 m.p.h. or faster, there’s a 70% chance that a struck pedestrian will be killed; At 30 m.p.h., there’s an 80% chance that the pedestrian will live.
phew.. im sooooo glad to hear the mathematical geniouses figured this out! and, are you as amazed as i was to hear this:
As part of the campaign research has found that the vast majority of New Yorkers were unaware of New York City’s speed limit, and that nearly all of the drivers sped. Some young men admitted to achieving speeds of up to 100 mph on arterial streets.
whoa there speedy mc-speedster, i sure hope i dont come across you while i’m crossing 8th avenue
on a brighter note – its time for another segment of the
